Bioactive Materials Presents at ATiO 2026 Berlin, Panel Explores Advanced Therapies & Transformations in Scholarly Publishing
Published 16 July, 2026
24–26 June 2026 saw the successful conclusion of ATiO Conference 2026, the exclusive global summit for advanced musculoskeletal therapies, hosted at Telegraphenamt in Berlin, Germany. Jessica Wang, Publisher of Bioactive Materials and Publishing Director at KeAi Communications, attended the conference and took part in a journal panel discussion. Joined by leading journal experts across orthopaedics and regenerative medicine worldwide, the panel exchanged insights on the evolution of regenerative therapies, the ongoing quality crisis in academic publishing, and actionable industry solutions, offering new perspectives for translational research and standardized publishing in musculoskeletal science.
A Global Gathering of Musculoskeletal Innovation Leaders
The conference brought together world-renowned academics, clinicians, biotech practitioners and medical investors, covering cutting-edge research areas including bioactive materials, cellular cartilage repair, orthopaedic implant devices and regenerative tissue engineering. The three-day agenda featured keynote presentations on industry trends, startup tech pitches, frontier research symposia, osteoarthritis special sessions, infection control forums and conference awards.
Journal Panel: Addressing Publishing Crises & Charting Industry Improvements
Held from 10:15 to 10:45 on 26 June, the panel session Advanced Therapies Strategies was moderated by Professor David Hunter from the University of Sydney. Panelists included Professor Mats Brittberg (University of Gothenburg), Professor Ali Mobasheri (University of Oulu) and Jessica Wang, representing top field journals to discuss key industry challenges.
Centered on the theme The Publication Crisis: Quality Control in the Age of Quantity, the discussion covered five core publishing topics:
- Systemic flaws in research evaluation frameworks leading to surging manuscript volumes, reviewer shortages and declining research integrity standards;
- Rigorous experimental validation standards for journals, differentiated innovation assessment criteria, and mandatory disclosure of ethics approvals, competing interests and AI utilization;
- Clear boundaries for generative AI usage, a ban on manipulated experimental imagery, and full accountability for corresponding authors on academic integrity;
- Restrictions on overhyped scientific claims, streamlined submission pathways for negative and replicative studies, and APC support schemes for such manuscripts;
- Tiered incentive programmes for peer reviewers, alongside calls for cross-industry unified credit tracking and reward systems to mitigate the global reviewer shortage.
Looking Ahead to ATiO 2027 in Vienna
ATiO Conference 2027 will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 2 to 4 June.
As the Berlin chapter draws to a close, Bioactive Materials will continue to advance cutting-edge research in musculoskeletal biomaterials, supporting global innovation in advanced therapeutic development and the dissemination of standardized, high-quality academic outputs.
