Bioactive Materials welcomes four new Associate Editors in 2022

We would like to welcome our new editorial team members: Xiaoxue Xu (University of Technology Sydney), Gulden Camci-Unal (University of Massachusetts Lowell), Ya Shen (The University of British Columbia) and Yu-Shik Hwang (Kyung Hee University).
Dr Helen (Xiaoxue) Xu
Dr Helen (Xiaoxue) Xu is a lecturer in the School of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Technology. She has extensive research experience in biomaterials and biomedical imaging technologies. She obtained her PhD in Materials Engineering from the University of Western Australia, Australia and was awarded three Chancallor's Postdoctoral Research Fellow (2015, 2017 and 2022). She has published >70 peer-reviewed papers and holds 1 international patent. Her current research interests are focused on (1) surface modification and functionalization of upconversion nanoparticles for cancer cell labelling, imaging and controlled drug release treatment; (2) biodegradable metallic materials for 3D manufactured scaffold for bone tumour treatment.
Prof. Gulden Camci-Unal
Prof. Gulden Camci-Unal is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Her current research interests include design and implementation of engineered biomaterials for regeneration of tissues, unconventional materials and medical devices for personalized medicine such as eggshell microparticle-reinforced scaffolds, paper-based cell culture platforms, origami-inspired tissue engineered products, and low-cost rapid point of care diagnostics. Her research has resulted in 84+ papers, 80+ conference abstracts, and 10+ patent applications so far.
Dr. Ya Shen
Dr. Ya Shen, Professor and Chair of the Division of Endodontics, UBC Faculty of Dentistry, Canada. Dr. Shen is a Full Professor in Endodontics at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of British Columbia (UBC). She has published more than 180 papers in peer-reviewed journals (with an h-index of 48) and 8 book-chapters. Dr. Shen was a former Associate Editor of the Endodontic Topics. She is one of the Editors of Visual Endodontics 2012 multi-media. She serves as an Associate Editor of the Bioactive Materials and an Editorial Board Member of the International Endodontic Journal. Dr. Shen is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Journal of Endodontics and also a reviewer for several high-ranking scholarly journals. She has received several teaching awards from UBC. Her main research interests are focused on (1) Fabrication of antimicrobial agents and associated delivery systems using bioactive materials; (2) Experimental, pre-clinical, and clinical studies on the applications of bioactive materials/device/technologies for treating oral disease; (3) Bio-fabrication of scaffolds for regenerating dental tissue; and (4) The use of bioactive biomaterials/devices, with microenvironment-adaptable physical/biological/chemical features for dental tissue engineering.
Professor Yu-Shik
Professor Yu-Shik is Professor of Maxillofacial Biomedical Engineering within Dental School at Kyung Hee University, Korea. He has extensive research experience in biomaterials and stem cell bioengineering. He obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College London, UK (2003-2008) and was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow from Harvard-MIT HST. He has published >100 peer-reviewed papers and holds 7 international patents. His current research interests are focused on (1) the elucidation of biological mechanism in extracellular interaction of natural biomaterials during organogenesis and tissue formation; (2) the development of three dimensional microtissues via integrated bioprocess using postnatal stem cells and biomaterials for biomedical engineering applications
