Special Issue on Immersive and Intelligent Interaction in XR: Theories, Methods, and Systems

Introduction:
The rapid advancement of virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) is reshaping human–computer interaction, moving beyond screen-based interfaces toward immersive, embodied, and spatial experiences. In these environments, interaction emerges through continuous coupling between human perception, cognition, and action within dynamic virtual and augmented spaces.
At the same time, increasingly adaptive computational capabilities are embedded in XR systems, enabling more responsive, context-aware, and interactive environments. This evolution calls for a rethinking of how interaction is designed, understood, and evaluated, particularly in terms of perception, embodiment, system behavior, and user experience.
This special issue of Design and Artificial Intelligence (DAAI) focuses on immersive and intelligent interaction in XR, aiming to advance theories, methods, and systems for designing and studying such interactions. We welcome contributions that deepen the understanding of interaction mechanisms, human experience, and system design in immersive environments.
Submissions are invited from human–computer interaction, XR, design, and related fields, including empirical studies, theoretical work, and system-oriented research.
