Special Issue on Emerging AI Technologies in High-speed Railways

Published 28 December, 2023

Introduction

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence(AI)technology in the new era, all industries have started the process of using new high-technology to transform their traditional way of production. As the fundamental part of transportation, the railway system is also facing many new challenges, especially for the high-speed railway (HSR). With the emergence of the concept of intelligent railways, AI technologies have become increasingly widely applied in HSR systems. The application of a new generation of information technology with AI technologies as an important part of the HSR system will dramatically improve production efficiency, reduce the operating cost of trains, and improve service quality. The promotion of the intelligent application of HSR systems has comprehensively improved the safety, reliability, and emergency response capabilities, which will well meet the practical requirements of the railway systems.

Topics of interest to this special issue include but are not limited to

  • Fault diagnosis and PHM of HSR systems via learning schemes
  • Autonomous collaboration of high-speed trains based on train-to-train communication and virtual coupling
  • Automatic driving.
  • AI-empowered technologies of the train control systems in HSR
  • Machine learning in HSR management.
  • AI-driven wireless communication optimization methods for HSR train control systems.
  • AI-based technologies for the traction power supply in HSR systems.
  • Machine vision for foreign object detection and equipment inspection in HSR.
