Journal of Brain and Spine (JBS) is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal dedicated to advancing neuroscience through interdisciplinary integration. Emphasizing the convergence of medicine and engineering, the journal prioritizes cross-disciplinary approaches that span neuroscience, biomedical engineering, computational science, and clinical medicine, with the aim of establishing a premier academic platform for brain and spine research.
We publish cutting-edge research that explores the complex interactions within the nervous system and the innovation of technological methodologies, with particular focus on brain-spine interfaces, brain-computer interfaces, brain-body interaction, neurodevelopment and related disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, autoimmune diseases of the nervous system, mechanisms of neurological diseases, and related modulatory and interventional techniques.
JBS welcome studies that develop or apply advanced methodologies to understand, restore, or enhance neural function, thereby fostering novel therapeutic strategies for neurological injuries.
JBS is committed to publishing research that leverages artificial intelligence and medical big data to drive scientific discovery, improve diagnostics, and enable personalized treatment in neurology and neurosurgery.
The journal offers a variety of article formats, including original research, reviews, commentaries, communications, opinion pieces, and conference reports. By fostering collaboration among basic scientists, clinicians, and engineers, JBS aims to translate groundbreaking discoveries into tangible improvements in patient care, serving as an essential resource for the global neuroscience community.

Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), located in the dynamic Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, is a prestigious "985 Project" and "Double First-Class" university directly under the Ministry of Education of China. Renowned worldwide for its academic excellence, profound cultural heritage, and global influence, SYSU has evolved over a century to rank among the world's top 100 universities. Notably, the university distinguishes itself in medical sciences: Neurology is designated as a national key discipline, while interdisciplinary fields such as Clinical Medicine and Neuroscience & Behavior rank within the global top 1‰ in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI). Pioneering collaborative healthcare initiatives, SYSU has established the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance for Psychiatry and Neurology and hosts key research platforms, including the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Brain Function and Brain Diseases. Anchored by the Brain Disease Center of the Third Affiliated Hospital—which stands as the most comprehensively equipped neurological medical center in South China—we lead the development of the "National Neurological Regional Medical Center (Central South)." Our center consistently secures numerous national and provincial research grants, generating high-impact innovations and patents. Furthermore, we sustain extensive partnerships with preeminent international institutions and national research centers across the globe.
