Special Issue on Communication Solutions for Wireless Mobile Networks and Sustainability and Energy Efficiency of 5G/6G Wireless

Published 26 March, 2021

Fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication network technologies are now being deployed around most of the world. To ensure continuity and competitiveness, industry and academia have started to conceptualise the sixth generation (6G) of wireless communication systems, which aim to provide revolutionary communication services and applications to meet future demands, while promoting sustainable development.

Research on wireless mobile networks, such as MANETs, VANETs, CCNs, WSNs, and IoT etc., is growing rapidly. It has resulted in more and more smart mobile devices (e.g., smart phones, smart watches, smart glasses, personal wearable communication devices and wearable healthcare devices), being designed to adapt to the development of wireless mobile networks. This indicates that we are entering an era of smart society. By leveraging the wireless mobile networks, smart mobile devices can communicate with each other and exchange information. Although there has been much research in this area, challenges remain.

This special issue encourages researchers to present original and recent developments in fundamental theory, performance limits, design, management issues, challenges and promising solutions for sustainable 5G and 6G communication systems.

Topics Covered:

  • Energy-aware design of 5G/6G transmissions and communication systems
  • Wireless energy transfers and energy harvesting for sustainable 5G/6G systems
  • Networks and communication
  • Application of information theory to the 5G/6G communication systems
  • Big data and edge AI technology as enablers for 5G/6G communication systems
  • Novel interference solutions and resource controls for 5G/6G communication systems
  • Propagation modeling on millimeter waves and the terahertz spectrum
  • Security and reliability issues with 6G/IoT
