About International Symposium on Coal Combustion

Coal remains a dominant global energy source, and this reliance may persist for several more decades until abundant new and renewable energy options are widely accessible. Coal presents significant challenges due to its detrimental environmental impact, as it contains harmful impurities and is more carbon-intensive compared to other fossil fuels. Hence, it is crucial for the international community to actively pursue methods for achieving cleaner, low-carbon, secure, and highly efficient utilization of coal.

The International Symposium on Coal Combustion (ISCC) is a series of symposia sponsored and organized by Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Since its inception in 1987, this event has been successfully held every four years. The forthcoming ISCC-10, the tenth in the series, is scheduled to take place in Taiyuan, a renowned historical city located in central China, from August 6th to 9th, 2023. To commemorate this milestone, we are organizing a virtual special issue to publish 10-15 high-quality articles selected from all submissions to the symposium. We invite you to keep a lookout for this special issue!
