Dr. Lei Chen is the Principal Investigator (PI) of the Biodiversity and Ecological Security Research Group, Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Vegetation and Environmental Change, Director of the Qianjiangyuan National Field Scientific Observation and Research Station for Forest Biodiversity, and Head of the Chinese Forest Biodiversity Monitoring Network (CForBio).

Dr. Chen conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Maryland, College Park, and the University of California, Los Angeles. He was awarded the Special Prize of the President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2010, the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award of CAS in 2011, and the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars in 2020.

He has received several awards, including the First Prize of the Zhejiang Science and Technology Award for Forestry Development, the Second Prize of the Liang Xi Science and Technology Progress Award, and the Green Guardian Award of the Mother River Award.

Dr. Chen has published more than 20 papers in leading ecological journals such as Science, Ecology Letters and Ecology. Two papers have been recommended by F1000, and one paper was selected as a Representative Research Achievement in China (2019), recognized by the iNature editorial board as one of China’s Top 20 Advances in Life Sciences for that year.
