In memoriam: Harold Burkhart, Forest Ecosystems Board Member

It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of University Distinguished Professor Harold Burkhart on Thursday 20 October in his office in Blacksburg, Virginia. Professor Burkhart had served on the editorial board of Forest Ecosystems since its launch in 2013. In this capacity, he helped to develop an international scientific journal with a new vision that places a greater emphasis on the biological and ecological effects of forest management. Harold Burkhart was a dedicated researcher, teacher and mentor who had been a supportive friend and colleague for numerous forest scientists in different regions of the world and an active member of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) for many years.
