Special Issue on Functional Nanocomposites for Piezoresistive Sensor Applications

Piezoresistive nanocomposites are attracting ever-growing interest as smart, multifunctional sensors that measure strain, pressure, tactility, temperature, humidity, etc. They can also be used in a variety of applications, including the Internet of Things (IoT), structural health monitoring, haptic sensing, touch panels and other wearable electronics. Piezoresistive sensors may require customised, piezoresistive property designs to obtain appropriate performance, such as sensitivity, working range, linearity, stability, repeatability and flexibility. These factors are mainly related to the features of matrix, composition, geometric shape, fabrication processes and the characteristics of various fillers, including conductive fillers such as carbon nanotube, carbon nanofiber, graphene and metal nanowires. To satisfy industrial applications, further research on topics such as the development of high-performance, novel piezoresistive nanocomposites, reliability of the sensor, sensor network design and sensor manufacturing is required.

This special issue will consider a range of aspects from the synthesis and design of piezoresistive nanocomposites to their fabrication, properties and application in the sensors field. We greatly welcome review papers and experimental studies, as well as theoretical and numerical analyses of piezoresistivity of novel piezoresistive nanocomposites and their corresponding sensors.
