Animals and Zoonoses is a peer-reviewed, open access, professional academic journal: all accepted articles are immediately and permanently available on ScienceDirect, and are free to read, download and share. It focuses on emerging zoonotic diseases and publishes the latest research results, case reports, short communication and reviews in veterinary medicine, animal science and biomedicine. The primary aim of the journal is to promote academic exchange through prompt publication and dissemination.

The journal covers the following areas:

  • Zoonotic diseases section focuses on tracing the original source of epidemic, etiology, epidemiology, diagnosis and detection, prevention and vaccine development of epidemic diseases.

  • Veterinary medicine section focuses on veterinary physiology, pathology, anatomy, veterinary epidemiology and public health, veterinary microbiology and immunology, veterinary virology and parasitology, etc.

  • Animal science section focuses on animal genetic breeding and bioinformatics, animal nutrition and metabolic diseases, animal food safety, and laboratory zoology, etc.

  • Biomedical science section focuses on molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry, etc.

We welcome manuscripts on original research results and reviews of basic and cutting-edge research. We also encourage submissions of relevant research that are not listed above. For detailed information on the submission categories, please refer to the Guide for Authors before submission.

Jilin University is a national key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education, located in Changchun City, Jilin Province. Founded in 1946, Jilin University was designated as a national key university in 1960. It became one of the first 22 universities to establish a graduate school in 1984 and is among the initial institutions constructed under the national “211 Project,” “985 Project,” and “Double First Class” initiatives. The university comprises 48 teaching units that cover 13 major disciplines, including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, arts, and interdisciplinary studies. It offers 121 undergraduate programs, 49 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, 6 first-level master's degree authorization points, 11 doctoral degree authorization points, and 25 master's degree authorization points. Additionally, it has 8 degree authorization points for emerging interdisciplinary disciplines and 48 post-doctoral research stations. Nineteen disciplines are ranked in the top 1% of the world’s Essential Science Indicators (ESI) rankings, with 5 disciplines in the top 1‰ and 1 discipline in the top 1‱.

The university boasts a robust faculty comprising 6 283 full-time educators, including 2 444 professors. Among them are 12 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 7 senior professors specializing in philosophy and social sciences, and 21 members of the Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. Additionally, Jilin University is home to a total of 529 national talent awardees. The university has an enrollment of 75 413 students, which includes 72 112 full-time and 3 301 part-time students. This student body consists of 151 matriculants, 41 939 undergraduates, 22 805 master's degree candidates (19 974 full-time and 2 831 part-time), 9 661 doctoral degree candidates (9 191 full-time and 470 part-time), and 853 international students.

Focusing on collaboration among the world's leading universities and progressively enhancing the global cooperation network, the university has established partnerships with 313 universities and research institutions across 43 countries and regions. Of these, 50 are ranked among the top 100 globally, and 76 are among the top 200. Additionally, the university has developed 49 Chinese-foreign cooperation platforms with institutions in 19 countries.
