Special Issue on artificial intelligence, internet of things and data science for communication systems
Published 17 April, 2023
Introduction:
The aim of artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and data science in digital communication networks is to facilitate collaboration between industry and academia in revolutionizing networks and systems by tapping the capabilities of the three technologies.
In particular, recent developments in IoT, mobility and fixed communication processes have set the stage for a data-oriented society. More frequent machine-to-machine connections bring new workloads that require efficient, reliable infrastructures. The diversity of applications and traffic will necessitate agile networks with self-improvement capabilities to guarantee high dependability and extremely short response times.
Network devices, sensors, agents, meters and smart vehicles and systems generate large quantities of data which challenge security, performance and reliability measures. Such complexities demand modern techniques for operating effective services, as well as management tools for analytics that allow prediction of network activities before issues arise. Moreover, data mining to detect Quality of Experience (QoE) signals can improve users' satisfaction.
This special issue will feature articles addressing the numerous topics within the scope, including but not limited to:
- All aspects of AI, IoT, machine learning, reinforcement learning and data analytics aiming at enabling and enhancing next generation networks
- Systems, methods, and infrastructure for the analysis of network, service traffic and user behavior for efficient and reliable design of networks, including deep learning and statistical methods for network tomography
