Special Issue on 5G/6G Communication Technologies and Applications for Intelligent High-Speed Railways

The new generation of railway mobile communications will be tailored for intelligent high-speed railways (HSR) applications, such as automatic train driving, high-definition video surveillance, remote detection and diagnosis. These applications are expected to support train operation control and railway safety-related traffic, with higher requirements on data rate, reliability, security and energy efficiency. Emerging 5G/6G wireless communication technologies provide new impetus for the development of new generation of railway mobile communications. Leveraging key 5G/6G technologies such as heterogeneous networking, integrated sensing-communication-computing, massive MIMO, reconfigurable intelligent surface, edge intelligence and digital twin, alongside cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, cloud computing and edge computing, the new generation of railway mobile communications is expected to be greatly improved in terms of data rate, communication reliability, number of access devices and information security.

This Special Issue seeks novel contributions from researchers and practitioners that explore 5G/6G Communication Technologies and Applications for Intelligent High-Speed Railways. Topics of interest to this special issue include but are not limited to:

  • 5G/6G wireless channel measurement and modeling theory and technology for HSR scenarios
  • 5G/6G wireless channel estimation and feedback technology for HSR scenarios
  • AI-empowered PHYlayer transmission theory and technology in high-mobility communication scenarios
  • Reconfigurable intelligent surface-assisted communication technologies for intelligent HSR
  • Theory and technology of integrated perception-communication-computing for intelligent HSR
  • Theory and technology of cloud-edge-device coordination for intelligent HSR
  • 5G/6G wireless resource management technology for HSR
  • 5G/6G mobility management technology for HSR
  • Digital twin-based network planning and autonomy technology for railway mobile communication networks
