Special Issue on Artificial Intelligence Technology and Applications in High-speed Railway

Published 24 May, 2024

High-speed railways have entered the intelligent technology age, moving towards the full integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into their operations. AI technologies. represented by machine learning, deep learning, vision and image processing, alongside computing paradigms such as big data computing, high-performance computing and cloud computing,  have a major role to play in providing intelligent equipment, intelligent construction, intelligent operation, and basic platforms for high-speed railways.

AI has established a strong theoretical and technical foundation for the comprehensive perception, ubiquitous interconnection, fusion processing, active learning  and scientific decision-making in high-speed railway networks. In recent years, emerging technologies such as edge intelligence, digital twins, large models, autonomous driving and computing power networks have emerged. Their deep integration with high-speed rail systems will more effectively support the high degree of informatization, automation, and intelligence of the entire process and lifecycle of construction and transportation.

Looking ahead, high-speed railways are set to evolve to a safer, more reliable, economically viable, comfortable and convenient mode of transportation. Moreover, they will increasingly prioritize efficiency, energy conservation and environmental sustainability, ensuring a greener future for transportation infrastructure.

High-speed Railway (CN 10-1922/U2; ISSN 2949-8678) has launched a special issue with the theme of “Artificial Intelligence Technology and Applications in High-speed Railway”. Scholars and students in the field are welcome to submit their academic research or review papers.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Intelligent detection, monitoring, and forecastingtheory and technology for high-speed railway infrastructure, environment, and natural disasters
  • Condition monitoring, health management and intelligent operation and maintenance theory and technology for key components of high-speed trains
  • Intelligent perception, analysis, fusion, and modeling theory and technology of multi-modal big data for high-speed railways
