Special issue on Underground Geo-energy Engineering

Published 25 August, 2023

Introduction:

Underground geo-energy engineering plays an increasingly crucial role in ensuring the successful and sustainable extraction, storage, and utilization of diverse energy resources. Key areas of focus within this domain include harnessing geothermal energy from deep reservoirs and hot dry rocks, as well as using subterranean spaces for the geological storage of hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and nuclear waste. This special issue aims to present cutting-edge research, novel methodologies, and illustrative case studies that underscore the importance of underground geo-energy engineering in driving the global shift to a more efficient and sustainable energy future.

Topics include but not limited to:

  • Renewable energy systems
  • Subsurface energy storage
  • Carbon capture and storage
  • Unconventional energy resources
  • Underground mining
  • Waste disposal
  • Underground construction for energy infrastructure

Important deadlines:

  • Submission close: 31 March, 2024
  • Final decision: 30 September, 2024
