CNOOC Tianjin Chemical Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd. (Tianjin Institute) was established in 1958. Its predecessor was a key scientific research institute directly under the original Ministry of Chemical Industry, and it was incorporated into China National Offshore Oil Corporation in 2006. As a key innovation platform in the fields of energy chemical industry, environmental protection and safety, Tianjin Institute focuses on three core directions: environmental functional materials and technologies, advanced chemical materials, and explosion-proof safety standardization. It has built a complete scientific research system covering 6 national-level platforms, 10 provincial and ministerial-level platforms and 3 innovation consortia, holds more than 20 high-level professional qualifications, and has the full-chain capability from basic research to industrialization.

In terms of industrial contributions, Tianjin Institute has achieved remarkable scientific research outcomes with far-reaching industry impact. It has been awarded 8 National Science and Technology Progress Awards and 316 provincial-ministerial level science and technology awards, complemented by 858 authorized patents (including 762 invention patents). The institute has spearheaded or participated in formulating and revising over 900 current standards (encompassing more than 390 national standards). It has undertaken 4 national high-tech industrialization demonstration projects, and hosts more than 10 industry standardization bodies and academic institutions, while sponsoring 2 Chinese core journals. Upholding a philosophy of "research-led, technology-driven", Tianjin Institute continuously propels industrial advancement and delivers robust scientific and technological support for national strategies and sustainable development, particularly in the domain of environmental functional materials.
